Mona Vale – ‘Basin Beach House’

Completed in 2019 and marking our second major collaboration with Peter Stutchbury architecture, this is a project we are very proud to have completed. Situated at the rear of Mona Vale Beach with a commanding view from the top of the dune, there was nowhere to hide whilst constructing this beauty.

Working on a tight, lump-sum contract, Capital delivered the stunning copper clad, strip-backed steel and off-form structure to an exceptionally high level of finish. The demanding nature of the design and the exposed steel structure required Capital to once again seek sub-contractors from outside of Sydney who were able to deliver the structural package to the millimetre tight tolerances required.

This house featured amazing elements such as a twisting a-symmetrical copper roof, polished concrete floors with Brass infill strips, full copper floor with built-in falls to the upstairs ensuite, hand-turned basins both in clay and in copper, frameless hardwood timber sliding doors that meet with and seal seamlessly to the structure and a feature plywood ceiling of pre-finished panels where no two sheets are cut to the same shape.

The quality of the workmanship on site is a testament to the technical skill of our tradesmen who put the project together. The value input and hard-work of the sub-contractors who worked with us on this project is also well deserving of recognition and commendation.  The administrative challenges of weighing up and making cost-savings through-out to keep the project variations cost-neutral also ensured that the office management team were required to work equally as hard to come up with innovative solutions.

Whilst at times the challenges of this project seemed immense & insurmountable, Capital worked hard with the architect to develop solutions and details that had never been tried before to stay true to the architectural vision. We finished the project whilst maintaining a strong, positive relationship with both the Architect and Client, and are continuing ongoing work with the architect on the Northern Beaches.
